Slabtown.net Site Updates Archive - June 2002

June 27, 2002
Added 8 pictures from the Steelworx Festival, all of which are copyrighted to Thierry Matthys. Also added a link to them for the shows page as well.

June 26, 2002
Since todays Dandy Warhols concert is scheduled to end in about 40 minutes (around 11pm U.K. time), figured I'd update the page with the facts of the show so far, so I can get some sleep for work tonight.So.....

Archived the June 26, 2002 University of Norwich show and took it off the upcoming concerts list. Up next: Glastonbury, in two days, which should have a lot of coverage, and I expect to gather as much as I can. Following that is the semi-historic co-headlining show with David Bowie at Meltdown, on Saturday. I can guarantee that a live review will be up of that show shortly after it concludes, since Slabtown.net knows someone that will be at the show (had to sell my tickets since I couldn't make it, and found a great person to buy them).

Tomorrow if I get unlazy (hah!), I got a new article to add to the site. Nothing special. Just a July 2000 issue of Rock Sound magazine.

June 25, 2002
Did a lot of small changes, such as:
Finished up correcting every page that had "The Tattoo Song" listed as "Daisy On My Toe," including the gig pages that it was played at, as well as the song menus that have it listed on it.

Added 2 or 3 new opening bands for past shows. Too random to bother saying what ones.

No Dandy Warhols show on June 25th, so will update the concert info after their June 26th Norwich show ends.

June 24, 2002 - Second Update
Posted a review of the June 23rd show at the Steelworx Festival, along with the setist for the show.

Archived the June 24th Amsterdam show and took it off the upcoming concerts page.

Oh, and in a major change (highly sarcastic), added that the 2002 Re-Release of the Get Off single came in a tape version as well as CD and Vinyl.

June 24, 2002
Wrote up a review for the June 13, 2002 Portland show. I hate writing reviews, so it is not a good one, to say the least. But at least its something.

Will update more later today, including doing the updates about the show that happened today in Amsterdam (and just completed a few minutes ago).

June 23, 2002
With the Dandy warhols' performance ending about a half hour ago at their show at the Steelworx Festival in Luxembourgh, the show has been added to the gigography.

Next up: Netherlands tomorrow.

June 20, 2002
Added a new compilation album, Pick'n'Mix, Vol. 7. It is in a pretty rough for at this time, as I don't even know what Dandy Warhols track is on it.

More updates later this week probably. I toook some time to just slack off for a few days.

June 16, 2002
Added 4 new articles:
1997 Article from Chart Magazine #89
Article from The Drum Media Magazine, circa 1998
"In Music We Trust" Article/interview with Peter.
Small profile from Spin Magazine, 1997.

June 15, 2002 - Small second update
"Updated" the list of upcoming shows. OK, that actually just means I took off the one show from the list that has happened.

June 15, 2002
Fixed a lot of small typos on various pages. And speaking of typos:

I goofed in the update information on June 14th. I uploaded the concert info for the June 13th, 2002 Portland show, not the review of the show. The review is still to come.

June 14, 2002
Added a review for the June 13th, 2002 Portland show

Put Zia back on the front page.

Review of show later this week.

June 13, 2002 - Second Update
Added my review of the June 12, 2002 surprise Portland show.

Expect another update later.

June 13, 2002
Added a surprise show from last night in Portland. A review will be written up tomorrow.

June 12, 2002
Another day, another round of updates from the vaults. New today:
Reviews
Review of Dandys Rule OK from Paperback Jukebox
Review of Dandys Rule Ok from Tonic
Review of Dandys Rule OK from Real Groove Magazine
Review of Dandys Rule Ok from The Rocket
Small review of Dandys Rule Ok from Willamette Week
Another small review of Dandys Rule Ok from Willamette Week
Review of Dandys Rule OK from Select Magazine
Review of Come Down from Altrockworld.com

Articles
Small article from BMA about their first trip to Australia.
Article from Billboard Magazine, pre-come down.
Small article from the Oregonian about the problems during recording of Come Down.
Infamous Rolling Stone piece where the band was declared "Best British Group To Come From America".
Small article from Willamette Week about fighting between Courtney and Eric during the recording of Come Down.
Small article from Willamette Week for the 1995 NXNW festival, praising them before they were signed with Capitol.

There are also 2 more concert reviews to put up, but I want to verify the dates of them before I upload them.

I should have an update later with somewhere between 1 and 4 more articles. I have 4 more on a stack, but they are all, I think, pretty lengthy to type up. And I'm lazy.

June 11, 2002 - Second Update
Couldn't sleep last night, so I opened up the vaults and got a bunch of older stuff done, along with a few recent things:
Reviwws added:
The Vibe's review of Dandys Rule OK
BrownStuff E-Zine's review of Dandys Rule OK
On Disk Magazine's review of Dandys Rule OK
The Oregonian's review of Come Down, came out right before their record release party for the album.
13 Tales album review - Source Unknown
The Big Takeover's review of 13 Tales
CMJ review of Boys Better

Article:
Article from The Oregonian, July 18, 1997, detailing the release of Come Down

I think I'm forgetting some others I did, but I couldn't find them. Maybe another update later today.

Archived the May 2002 news and site updates.

Update - Wow, I think this is the first time I did an update and didn't make a new section for it. But this is because a few minutes after I posted the update I'm appending this to, I got word of a new compilation the band is on. So, I'll just tack it on the end.
All it is is a silly compilation named Screen Cuts, with Boho on it.

June 11, 2002
Added an August 2000 article from The Rocket Magazine, and put it in the articles menu.

Updated the track list for the compilation Wishing You The very Best This Holiday Season, which contains a previously unreleased version of Godless. When I went to add the version to the Godless section, I realized I haven't finished it yet. Whoops.

June 10, 2002
Added a Article Menu. It is in the rough stages, with only the articles listed and in no real order. When I decide how I want to organize them, I'll do it. Currently I can't decide if I want them to be sorted by date, title, tpe or original source.
In conjunction with that, I also "opened" up the articles link in the main menu on the left side of the screen.

Organized the Interview Menu page.

Added a small page about why there is no multimedia on the site for the most part, and activated the links in the main menu to go to the default page. Later this week, after a few other projects, I might add links to the media I currently do have on the site, though it is all linked to elsewehre already.

WOW! Every subject currently in the main menu now has a link and is activated! Finally.

June 9, 2002 - third update
Geez, I slacked off all day. I should have just included everything in one update.

Anyway, so I grabbed a bunch of magazines off the stack of stuff I still have to transcribe, but only took the time to type out one of the 5.

Added a new interview taken from the Abercrombie & Fitch 2001 catalog.

June 9, 2002 - second update
Okay, I broke down and typed up the other new article I was talking about, from the October 9, 2000 issue of Revolver Magazine down in Australia.

There might be a third update later today, but it will be less minor... changing the layout of the concert listing calendars, adding a articles menu and a real interview menu... Maybe type up some of the smaller reviews that I have, but probably not. I have about 40 or 50 one paragraph reviews that I haven't done most of yet. OR archive the news and site updates...

Or I'll get drunk instead.

June 9, 2002
Added a 1997 Addicted To Noise article.
Added the June 1998 Select Magazine article.

Got a new article in the mail today. Will type it up tomorrow (well, later today).

June 7, 2002
Added one of the two articles that I mentioned in yesterdays update: A June 2000 Melody Maker article. I don't think I will get around to typing up the other article (from a June 1998 Select article), but I hope to scan the pics from it. There is a pretty cool one of Brent when he was new to the band and his fathead look was only at hair helmet size. Actully, glancing through the issue, there is a small album review I can type up fast. Hold on...

OK, it is uploaded and all the related pages updated to reflect it being added.

This weekend, I will try to finish linking up reviews and albums. Well, the ones left to do are the various variations of each album. For example, for Thirteen Tales, only the standard release has links to the reviews, but the vinyl, urban australia and two disk set are all reviewless.

Also, added two new promo CD's, The Tip Sheet sampler #238 and The Tip Sheet sampler #245.
June 6, 2002 - Second update
Well, I did get around to uploading more stuff this afternoon, but it was only to add a new album to the discography: Virtually Alternative #58 and edited the song files for T.V. Theme Song to reflect that.

That should do it for updates for today.

June 6, 2002
Uploaded a new online chat transcript, but I had the feeling that I already did it a few weeks ago. If anyone finds that it is a repeat, write in to let me know. I couldn't find it, but I'm also too tired to look that much.
Radioundercover online chat with Courtney and Brent.

Maybe more later, depending on how tired I am. I got a "new" article yesterday that I need to type up, but its long. And I have another one that is just about done being typed up. But it's long too.

June 4, 2002 - Second Update
Uploaded 7 new things:
A 1998 Melody Maker article about the band
The band reviewing the latest singles of the week for Melody Maker
An article in Bodyjar magazine.
An article about spending the night with the Dandy Warhols (source unknown)
An article in the USC website.
An interview with Courtney for RealDetroit magazine
An interview with Courtney for Rock And Sound magazine

June 4, 2002
Sorry for the lack of information the past few days. I uploaded a "Happy Birthday, Zia" graphic to the front page the other day (her birthday was June 2 and she turned 27), and have now taken it down, with her birthday being pass. You can still see the graphic at http://www.slabtown.net/photos/people/zia/zbd.jpg if you missed it or just want to see it/save it. On a humorous note, I found out (well, remembered) that I don't have the main background for the website a solid white. Found this out when the Zia birthday pic didn't blend because I had set the edge to a solid white and not the off-white that I use. Now the big test is to see if I remember this in the future. my money is on no.

The lack of updates was due to me having no net access for 2 days. Fuckers (my provider. Not you.). In the downtime, I did type up 5 new pieces, so expect those to be uploaded later today, maybe. I'm too busy drinking beer today to want to do it now, and that might affect me uploading it later.

Anyway, the Crystal Ballroom poster is back up now, which should be the case until after the show.

June 1, 2002
Added a new interview with Peter from Selector Magazine, circa 2000.

There are a little over 20 articles in a folder called "articles" if you want to take the time to go to see them on your own. They aren't linked to yet.
