"Welcome To The Monkeyhouse" News And Rumors

"Welcome To The Monkeyhouse" Summary - "Welcome To The Monkeyhouse" Confirmed Facts
NOTE: Starting March 7, this page is no longer updated. All new information is on the News page.

Welcome
With a new album being released in 2003, many questions are starting to be asked about what to expect on the new Dandy Warhols album, their 4th commercial release, so slabtown.net has set up a one-stop place for all the information known about the album. It will be divided up into two sections. This section will be where all the most recent news is put as I get it, and the summary section will be a more organized overview of what is known about the next album, so that you don't have to search through all the newest posts just for specific information.

Not everything on either of the two pages are meant to be considered the gospel fact, and there are bound to be rumors that end up not being correct. But, either way, they will be put on here just the same. Due to that, if you come across any new information that you would like to share, just get ahold of slabtown.net and it will more likely then not get posted.

March 7, 2003 - First Monkeyhouse Review
With the promo copies of Welcome To The Monkey House making their way to magazines, the first review of the album came out today, and it was mostly very positive. Read it here
.

Quick summary of the review: A really good album, but one that will probably take a while to grow on some people. On the same hand, some people might reject the bands overall style immediate. Very much an experimental album, compared to what the band has done in the past.

This also marks the final update to this seperate MH page/section. News on the album is now official enough to allow it to be posted to the general news page. I will sort out this stuff in the coming days and organize it all into some sort of archive package thing. Down the line, the seperate sections might make their return, but I am not sure yet. I have some things in the works that I want to do, but don't know if I will get around to doing it.

March 4, 2003 - Various items
Check out the main news page for a lot of items about Used To Be Friends (the "we" at the beginning is hard to get used to!), including a commentary by me about being on the set for the video of the song, lyrics to most of the song and a link to download an uber-shitty mp3 of the track. The reason I even bothered to put it up was to give people a small idea of what the track is like, especially considering some people were starting to have doubts over the direction of the new album.

I went and checked the older charts from the Norweigan radio station playing The Last High, and saw that it had actually been on the charts there for 3 weeks now. Feb. 11 it was #23, while it was #22 for both the weeks of Feb. 18 and Feb. 25. The list for this week hasn't been released yest.

Reportedly, magazines (at least in the U.K.) are starting to get their full promo copies of the new album, so hopefully some small reviews and information will start to be leaking out. And I'm still hoping to get a copy, but having a dream is not a bad thing.

February 26, 2003 - tracks confirmed;Japan release
The tracks listed earlier today have been comfirmed on the official site. Will start making updates to pages later.

With the larger amounts of info about the album appearing, I can mention something in more detail that I cryptically talked about here on the 20th. Word has it that the Japanese version of the CD will be out April 23rd, and will include a bonus disk. A place I have dealt with in the past is taking pre-orders for it at $34. Check them out at http://www.medazzaland.net/. Remember that this release date still might change, or it mght have already changed and the distributor might not have been able to correct it yet. So, no promises on that date, but haven't heard anything against it.

February 26, 2003 - lots
This info might be pulled later today. We'll see. I'm posting it only because someplace else already did.

The first U.K. press release went out about what to expect from Monkey House. Here is what it said:
U.K. album release date: May 19
We Used To Be Friends release date: May 5

Track Listing:
Welcome To The Monkey House
We Used To Be Friends
Plan A
The Dandy Warhols Love Almost Anyone
I Am A Scientist
I Am Over It
The Dope
Insincere Because I
You Were The Last High
Heavenly
I Am Sound
Hit Rock Bottom
You Come In Burned

Check the Tour menu for more announced dates.

One last fact that is interesting only to me, probably, but Courtney is once again identified as "Taylor-Taylor". God, I hope that isn't going to stay.

February 21, 2003 - TLH #22 in Norway
Got an email that pointed out that, on at least one radio station in Norway, The Last High is being played and at #22 on their playlist charts. Will have to follow it and see how high it might go, at least until Capitol hears they are playing it, I'm sure.

February 20, 2003 - Another Possible Monkeyhouse Release Date
Just got word from someone I know that the album might be releaed in one country on April 23rd, with an included bonus disk. I'm going to put off saying where until I get a bit more information, but I'll mention well in time to order it if you want to import it. In the meantime, if you have any information on specific release dates around the world, please write in. Not only might it help me with this date, it will help with other ones.

February 19, 2003 - Possible Monkeyhouse Release Date
Someone on the official messageboards posts that Welcome To The Monkeyhouse will be out on July 22nd. No reason to believe them, but since that is a tuesday, no reason to not believe it either.

February 12, 2003 - cover updates
All speculated album covers removed by request.

Update - Geez... I've already got 3 emails asking me about this and what it might mean, so let me address it quick:
Don't read anything into my taking all three of them off. It doesn't mean any of them are or aren't the cover. It just means I was (very politely) asked to remove them for the time being.

February 12, 2003 - Possible Album Cover, Part 3; Possible single cover, part 1; polyphone update
Gothman, the webmistress of the official site, threw two pictures up on the official messageboards, which at the time I'm writing this (1:19am west coast U.S. time), he has once said on the boards that they were real and that he has yet to say they weren't..
"Welcome To The Monkeyhouse" full album art

"We Used To Be Friends" single art

Remember that until the official homepage announces something, it doesn't matter what is said elsewhere (even on the official messageboards)... but there is one interesting thing about the single for We Used To Be Friends.... few places have so far been reporting that the song title has been changed to "We Used To Be Friends"... most still call it "Used To Be Friends". So, either Sean was very thorough with his fakery, or this has some legit backing....

But again, I repeat that until the official page announces it, nothing matters. This is just speculation.

February 10, 2003 - "New Single" played at Polyphone function
Thanks to Joe for bringing this to my attention.

Buried in an article at xfm.co.uk about Blur announcing their new guitarist at an "exclusive record company preview night" was the sentence: "and a playback of the new Dandy Warhol’s single"
The only question left is what song. It is a good bet that it was either Used To Be Friends or The Last High, but my money is on Used To Be Friends because, since that is to be the first single, I would guess that it would be the one more accurately referred to as "the new single". But since The Last High is in circulation, and is to (more than likely) be the second single, maybe they played that.

Never fear. Your caped crusader of trivial facts is on the case. I will find out.

Oh, to read the original article, go to http://www.xfm.co.uk/webClient?guid=48727.

February 10, 2002 - Possible Album 4 cover art, round 2
This photo came up for conversation on Dandysrule2, and it reminded me of another piece of info I have had for a while, but never put on the site. To know the context in which it was brought up in, join the Dandysrule2 mailing list:

Back history: I got this photo many, many months ago, and I forgot about it. At the time, and a few times since then, I was told that it was not the album cover, but it was just an attempted joke-type image, combining the Velvet Underground album cover (the banana) with the Rolling Stones 'Sticky Finger' album cover (a zipper)... as I said, for no apparent reason, I forgot about having this image, until it was mentioned on Dandysrule2.

Now, it would end at idle speculation at that, but it was recently spotted on a sticker, which says on the back "New Album. The Dandy Warhols. Spring 2003" and some legal crap at the bottom. Since this album is very delayed, there is no way that the back of it said this the whole time, which gives it an air of being more recent.... we'll see.

I hope to have a copy of it for scanning both sides within a week, but we'll see. And remember that at this time, this is just speculation, which is what I seem to always do. Until Dandywarhols.com confirms a cover and/or Slabtown.net mentions that the official site confirmed something, it isn't confirmed.

February 6, 2002 - MTV's info is correct
Well hell. Now I have to decide how I want to update information between here and the news section, since official stuff is coming out now.

Anyway, I wrote to someone "in the know" and it was confirmed to me that everything in the MTV article about the new album was... well, mostly correct. Nick Rhodes isn't co-producer, but did contribute a lot. Also, while Dando DID help with TLH, I didn't get a confirmation that his contribution was in the form of co-writing.
OH! I forgot to mention in the initial report that MTV said the release month in the U.S. is June and outside the U.S. is May. This is true.

Anyway... lots to update.

February 6, 2002 - MTV's info
Thanks to someone on the mailing list for posting about this. I am in too much of a hurry to go see who it is right now though....

No word yet on the truthfullness of any of it. Am checking.

According to MTV, the new album will be called "Welcome To The Monkey House," which is a Kurt Vonnegut book, but not one of his better ones (personal opinion).
"Used To Be Friends" will be the first single. Other tracks are called "The Last High" (as we knew) and "The Scientist"... Evan Dando co-wrote TLH. Also reported is that "The Scientist" features a guy named Nile Rodgers, who was in "'70's disco outfit Chic and onetime producer for Duran Duran."

The article also said 13 Tales sold 110,000 copies.

The article can be read at http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1469800/20030206/dandy_warhols.jhtml?headlines=true.

February 4, 2002 - TLH an alt mix?
Sorry I didn't notice this earlier, but I'll blame Sean over at the official site, since he didn't update the front page to mention it, and you could only find it out by clicking on the news section... and I quit checking the site every day for changes, like I used to. Just not enough updates there. But thanks to Standstrong25 on Dandysrule2 for mentioning this update:

Apparently the version of The Last High that appears on the Spin magazine compilation is an alternative mix, and not the album mix. In addition, the official site expects it to be the second single from the album. It was reported here before it was to be one of the first three singles, which are already decided on by Courtney, but it is new info to hear it is apparently currently pegged to be the second single overall.

Additionally, one thing I did find interesting about Seans update was the end that said "Take a listen and tell us what you think."... The "Tell us what you think" part is a link to Seans email, but the "take a listen" part is what is weird.... it almost implies that the track is available for download on the site someplace, but I never found it. The only other thing it could mean is that Sean means to track down the Spin issue that has it and listen for yourself from it.

Thanks for that info, Sean. (and I don't mean that sarcastically)
January 28, 2002 - All Countries Aren't Created Equal
Something that I didn't even think about asking until it came up on Dandysrule2 this past week was if the record would have a simultaneous worldwide release or if it would be staggered, like it has been every time in the past.

Due to promotional commitments needed by the band on all sides of all oceans, don't expect all release dates to be the same. The band is hoping for it to happen, but there is a slim chance it will. No word on who will get it first, or when, but late April is looking very solid still.

January 17, 2002 - More info on people involved with the album
Thanks to Brandon for telling me where to find this information:

Yoad Nevo is being credited with programming and mixing of The Last High, along with programming on We Used To Be Friends (speaking of which, that looks like another name change. The "We" is new to me). Yoad is pretty established and has a very long line of credits.

Jeremy Wheatley did additional programming and mixing for The Last High. As with Nevo, he has a long list of credits as well.

January 16, 2002 - release date rumor
Another onlne music place (musictap.net) lists the release for the new album as May 6th, tentatively. This is the latest date yet I've heard.

January 16, 2002 - Yes, it does exist
Well, thanks to RJ on the dandysrule2 mailing list, I've got a copy of The Last High. Get your own copy here:
The Last High
Not sure how long it will be up. I do expect to be asked to take it down.

Now, some thoughts on it....
First, this is definitely the Ashes To Ashes clone, which used to be called I Am Sound... but, I was told yesterday by the bands manager that I Am Sound and The Last High were different songs.
Anyway, the song has a very, very 80's feel to it. And it's written great. This song has the chance of being a groundbreaking song for the band.

Site-related, I hope to have lyrics up for it tomorrow, and I plan on updating the A4 summary page as well.

January 15, 2003 - I Am Sound renamed
OK, for most of the info on this situation, look at the main news page. But, the short of it is that I Am Sound (the ashes to ashes clone) has been renamed The Last High. At the very least, I did get a general confirmation that there is a track named "The Last High".

January 5, 2003 - release date/album title (again)
Can't believe I forgot to post this. But then again, it is not really it is not that exact of information.

In response to an email I sent out with some questions on the release date and album title, I got a reply in late December from someone close to the band. As of the end of 2002, a few ideas for album titles are still being thought about, and none has been decided, even as more and more places are listing it as "I Am All Freaks" (a title I have not hidden my dislike of). Not saying this won't be the title, but nothing has been decided yet.

As for a release date, the same general answer is true: Nothing has been decided on. But, a window is in the works as for when they expect to have it out, and its the latest date heard yet: Late April. The semi-interesting part is that a rumor came to Slabtown.net a while back (scroll down to see when) that they might be shooting for around 4/20 for a release date, but I mostly brushed this off as an attempt at humor. But, this new information actually does put the album close to that time period. For the record, due to albums being released (at least in the U.S.) on Tuesdays, this would make the release date probably April 22nd or April 29th.

Anyway, as usual, this information is unconfirmed but from a trusted source. Curiouser and curiouser (that spelled right?).

December 14, 2002 - release date/album title
Thanks to Cosmlow for posting this on the forums here.

According to a website, longplayer.co.uk, a record store in England, the release date for the new album is April 3rd, and will be named "I Am All Freaks". Additionally, an article from Birte Music News says:
Apart from the usual leisure activities, in their case without question Sex, Drugs and still more Drugs, dedicate themselves the Dandy Warhols at present also to the photographs to their fourth LP information about this give them however only sporadically to price. It stands firmly that the photographs are almost final zu`I at the universe Freaks ' and on a publication in March to be counted are.

The Dandies Fanpage slabtown.net knows a few unconfirmed information to the new Songs.

The reported title in this article ("I at the universe Freaks") looks to me like it could be a rough translation of "I Am All Freaks". This would make it the 4th source to pin the name as being "I Am All Freaks".
Thanks again to Cosmlow for pointing out both articles.

Also, the "I Am Sound" lyrics have been updated by me. Nothing major in changes, but I think I weeded out some more of the hard-to-understand words.

December 14, 2002 - Partial I Am Sound lyrics.
I guarantee that these are at least 50% wrong... if you want proof, just see how little sense they make. If anyone (who already has the song) wants to help me with the lyrics, let me know. I'm going to keep working on them as well, since they make no sense.

I am in love, but I'd do it by 100,000 more
Then I said would you'd ever last.
And I am in love, like I hoped
From at least 10,000 more
The I swore that you ever had.

(repeat 2 more times)

November 19, 2002 - Slabtown.Net going to go on killing spree over release date.
Got word in a relatively anonymous email, from someone who works in a record store, and in this weeks Super D mailing list (Super D is a distributor), the release date for the new album is listed as March 25th. This contradicts what someone else told me a few days ago (and their source was quite close to the band), so not sure if they were lied to and the album is actually coming out in late march, or if the date was pushed back again and it wasn't known in time to correct the distributor.

November 18, 2002 - Possible new album cover?: No
Well, that was answered quickly. I got an email today from someone close to the band that said that the picture put up yesterday was not the album cover. No word on if that means that the album cover has been decided or not.

November 17, 2002 - Possible new album cover?
The following image came up for discussion on the dandysrule2 mailing list:

Speculation currently exists as to if this might be the new DW album cover or not. The biggest proof is due to the fact that on the artists homepage (www.popaganda.com), he mentions he is working with the Dandy Warhols, and shows 2 paintings of Courtney. Then the above image was found.

Right now, it is nothing but deep speculation as to if it might be the cover or not. I'm trying to see if I can find out either way (if anyone is talking), and will let you know if I hear anything.

NOTE: Nothing says this is the cover, so don't jump to the conclusion that it is. There is just interesting evidence that it MIGHT be the cover.

Also, I've started a discussion thread on the messageboards about this topic.

November 15, 2002
Recently at a concert in Portland, new information about the album came out, most notably about the release date. They are shooting for a date in April. More specifically, a date in late April. Even more specifically, a date that is synonymous with drug use. Don't expect it to come out on that date, since it will be a Sunday and new albums come out on Tuesdays, but look for it to come out in that general timeframe.

October 27, 2002
I got it confirmed that the Massive Attack material won't appear on the next album, for various reasons, and won't be revisited until after "Album 4" comes out. Also, I do know, through reading reports at NME.com, Massive Attack has a very very busy schedule for the rest of this year and the start of next year.

October 4, 2002
Rumor has it that Sean at the official site has told a few people that the Massive Attack collaborations have been cut from the album. Not sure if this is true or not.

October 3, 2002
Huge (in significance) update for the new album. There is a full-page article in the latest issue of Q Magazine. You can read the complete article or just bone up on the new info:

Over It - Courtney describes this track as "Amazingly Soothing" as it contains the sound of eight people breathing for at least part of its structure.
Love Me Madly - "Has a very similar groove to Low Rider by War." For this track, they broke out the cowbell.
I Am Sound - This is the Ashes To Ashes clone. Courtney is very pleased with how it turned out. He also played it for Bowie, who seemed at least a bit receptive towards its closeness to his song. Due to the name of this song, it is possible that this is the track "Suffered And Sound" renamed, but no word yet on that.

Also, they confirm the tentative February 2002 release date for the U.K.

And on a final, insignificant note, the article refers to Courtney as "Courtney Taylor" and not "Courtney Taylor-Taylor". Might be just a slip, or it could be more proof that the hyphenated name is gone.

October 1, 2002
Got word from RJ, on dandysrule2, that Pete has mentioned that the actual date that they are scheduled to be done with mixing is October 16th.

September 28, 2002
Sean at the official site has posted a bit of news recently, in which it is mentioned (in limerick fashion) that mixing should be done by mid-October. He also reiterates the "early 2003" release of the album.

September 24, 2002
According to conversations that The Dandy warhols had at a recent Brian Jonestown Massacre show last night (September 23) in New York City, where the band is spending a month doing some mixing on the new album, the new album is expected out in February.

(Note: This was again said by Courtney at another BJM show a few days later, adding verification that they are shooting for this time.)

September 19, 2002
On the Dandysrule2 mailing list, someone mentioned the latest Capitol France press release, and states that it gives the release date for the new album there as "early 2003". A bit vague of course, but this is the first thing I have heard from Capitol about when it will be coming out anyplace around the world.

I'm trying to get a copy of this press release, so if anyone has it, let me know and I will wish good things upon you.

September 3, 2002
Another update to say that there isn't much to update on the new album, and to put a notice out.

From now on, there will not be any guitar tabs for the new album on the site. And as always, there will not be any new tracks downloadable anywhere on the site.

The song download issue is not one new, so that isn't different. The guitar tab one is one of common sense. Why give away someones private works before the album is released? Besides the lack of a surprise this would make for new music, someone could easily claim it was their song, or even worse, make a shitty cover of a song before it ever came out.

August 12, 2002
The band has been quiet again, as they all take a break following their 3 week tour in Europe, so little news has come out before today. And even it isn't that firm.

The official site is reporting that Courtney is currently in L.A., working on the new album. No word who he is working with yet, but it is also reported that the rest of the band will be heading down to L.A. later this month to help with the album. No word, official or otherwise, on if any of the names known to be helping with the album will be working with them before the major mixing picks up in September.

Also reported by the site is that the target date for a U.S. release is now "winter". Based on the seasons, this could be anything from December to February, assuming it stays on target. I expect it not to. But then again, the official site hasn't in the past posted release date rumors, so maybe thats a sign that it is more firm then past estimates.

July 11, 2002
The past few weeks have not been as quiet as this lack of updates inplies. I mean, sure the band is currently on tour, so they aren't actively working on the songs right now, but news has still filtered out.

The biggest news is actually a case of non-news. After quotes came out that the band was working on two of the new songs in practice to play on the tour, no new songs have showed up on any show yet.

A few days ago, Courtney was on I believe MTV Italy and their version of TRL, and said that they have brought in Flood to work on the album. I don't know if this is in place of some of the other names known to have been working on the album, or if its in addition to. Also, there is no word on why he was brought in. Is the album going bad? Good? I don't know. I have talked to a couple people who have heard the new album in demo form, and the general feeling is that at first, people aren't liking it, but it is growing on them very fast and soon they start to feel its just an amazing album. Read whatever you want to into both of those pieces of news.

June 25, 2002
Last week, I got really smashed, but got a lot of information about the new album. But, being so wasted, I didn't take the time to post them (though I mailed them to the dandysrule2 mailing list). Then, I forgot about them. So, here we go:

First off, note that this info is from a source very close to the band, but who has been known to feed me bullshit in the past. But, I do believe this is mostly true.

More confirmation that "Rock Bottom" is a song on the new album. There was a small hint that this might be the first single.
Confirmation (though hesitant) that "Used To Be Friends" is a song on the new album. It was also implied that this also has a chance of being the first single off the album.
The song that slabtown.net lists as "Downtown" is actually called "I Dream Of Yes." Because of the similarity to the title "House Of Yes," this still might be the massive attack collaboration, since "I Dream Of Yes" and "House Of Yes" are both known collaborations between them.
The song called "Suffered And Sound" might now be called just "Suffered." Or maybe it's just "Sound". I can't remember.
Apparently all the album names listed at slabtown.net as possibilities, they are all fakes. I don't know if I buy this though.

June 16, 2002
I got an email a few days ago that talked about some of the titles that the band might be looking at for the new album, and since then I have been trying to find out more information about the titles to see if any of the rumors hold water (I didn't even consider asking at the two Portland shows recently. It just wasn't the place for that. It was just a night of music, not 20 questions). I got a few more answers, but for the most part, nothing much.

The email listed 3 titles: "101010," "That's What It's All About" and "We Are All Freaks."

Least credible to me of these is "That's What It's All About," which is uncoincidently a line from the hokey-pokey song. My money would be on the fact that, if this was said by any of the band, it was in jest. And if it wasn't, may god have mercy on their souls.

"101010" is binary for the number 42, which if you have ever read "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" series of books, it is the ultimate answer to "life, the universe and everything." Basically its the ultimate answer. I can picture this being the name of it, actually. It has enough cheese to it to allow it to be fun, but still be unique.

The most weight at this time from those that will talk is in regards to "We Are All Freaks." Apparently Courtney has thought of this name and seems to like it quite a bit (from time to time at least). Again, I can picture this being the title as basically just being proud of not being the status quo, but on the other hand, it sounds a bit too "alternative" to me, by which I mean it sounds like its tryng to be obscure for the sake of being obscure. Also, one source said that Alternative Press magazine listed this title as one of the most anticipated albums of 2002 and said it was a Dandy Warhols record. I haven't seen the magazine though, so I don't know if this is the case or not.

I wouldn't expect any of these to be the final title used eventually, considering how far out it is looking for the album to come out.

May 30, 2002
A new interview with Peter contained a lot of new talk about Album 4 (referred to as "Episode IV" in the article, which I like much more then "Album 4"). I'll whip through them with a quick roundup of info:

On the Festival Tour (and presumably the Portland show), they are, at this point, planning on playing 2 new songs. No metion on what two.

Pete has heard rumors that they will be performing a song with Bowie at Meltdown, but even he doesn't know if this is true or not.. While this has been rumored in the past, this is the clearest comments yet that it is a possibility.

Nick Rhodes got involved on the project when the Dandy Warhols met him while doing some T.V. shows in London earlier this year. While the interview doesn't say it, this meeting took place in early February 2002.

While he "Can't confirm or deny" Simon LeBon appeared on a track, he did say he has heard about Plan A (hadn't heard if LeBon was involved in this), but had no idea of a song named "Downtown". I don't remember if I mentioned before, but slabtown.net did get confirmation a few days ago that Downtown is not going to be the songs actual name, so chalk that one up to being a slabtown.net nickname.

Pete does confirm songs with the title of "Wonderful You" and "Suffered And Sound," both of which have been rumored as track names at slabtown.net for a while now.

That should cover it.

May 29, 2002
An email I got this afternoon further pinpoints the new album as coming out in September 2002. Persumably this is the U.K. version, as it has been reported that the U.S. release won't be until early 2003 now. There has been no confirmation of this September release date.

May 24, 2002
I got another email from Luc about the lyrics for the album 4 songs, from Rock And Folk, and he assured me that the lines were exact quotes, as they were in english and not translated. So, consider my comments about a rough translation to be utter crap and the quotes to be right.

On a bigger note, a souce going by the name of Amanda Gregory has supplied me with a copy of the track known as "Downtown" (at least known by that on this site). Amazing stuff. I'll talk more about it later.

May 22, 2002
Luc, of the Dandysrule2 mailing list, was kind enough to send me a translation of the French Rock And Folk article. Well, the parts that have to do with the new album. The translation is a bit rough at times, but it still comes across fine.

Besides the titles as listed in the last update, the article also says that one of the lines for Rock Bottom is "Ain't got keep silent music yew you ain't got the muscles" (I think something was lost in the translation of that). SUffered And Sound contains the line "I've delivered comfort to the aching and the tired with these words of comic wisdom'". Again, translation is rough.

Oh well, just read it yourself. Take some of it with a grain of salt, since I doubt it is all true ("Apocalypse Shit"?).

I've also heard that there will be 11 tracks on the album, which this article states as well.

Thanks to Luc on the Dandysrule2 mailing list, word came out of an article in the French magazine "Rock And Folk" about the new album (full text should be coming later):

New song title: "Suffered And Sound" - Written by Courtney while he was depressed. Played over the phone to Zia on Christmas Day.
New song title: "Rock Bottom" - Very Stones sounding. Article writer heard this song.
Changed/full song title: "Kate" is actually now named "Not Fucking Kate Moss (Was The Worst Decision Of My Life)".
Massive Attack update: "House Of Yes" might be on the new album. 2 other tracks were recorded with the band. So, no word yet if "Downtown" and "House Of Yes" are the same or not.

Through info on the dandysrule2 mailing list, the information about Simon LeBon, and the track "Plan A", has been confirmed at www.duranduran.com, the official site for Duran Duran. The finding of this info on the site was talked about a few hours after it was posted here about the story. Always cool to get a confirmation.

Things have been pretty quiet, news-wise. The band has basically finished recording the album, as reported by dandywarhols.com and they are now working on the smaller details of it. This includes Courtney heading to New York for a weekend with Tony Visconti and then Courtney and Brent hitting London for a week or so.

While in London, they have done some work with Duran Duran's brilliant Simon LeBon, for a track currently named "Plan A", or so I have heard.

In other Duran Duran-related news, the role of Nick Rhodes has been pegged down to "co-production" of the new album.

Beyond that, it is also known/expected that they will be playing some new songs at the Portland concert on June 13th.

NME had a small piece on the Dandy Warhols new album, focusing mostly on the appearances by Nick Rhodes and Tony Visconti, which has previously been announced. But, it did garner some information about the release, stating that the album is slated for release in the U.K. this year and stateside early in 2003. Hopefully soon, more solid release dates will be given.

Been a while since I have updated this last, but that has been due to the site being down. In the meantime, a lot of new information about the album has come out. dandywarhols.com has reported that Nick Rhodes (one of the founders of Duran Duran) and someone else will both be collaborating with the band on the new album. Also, while it is not officially confirmed yet, look for David Bowie to show up on a track as well.

Also, apparently the album is just about done being physically recorded. At least the Dandys parts.

still trying to get some word on the Massive Attack song whose lyrics came out. But, until I do get more info, such as if it is "House Of Yes," I'm going to just stick with naming it "Downtown". If anyone has any information on it, let me know.

The following song lyrics have come out and they are believed to be a legit song from Album 4, and is another collaboration with Massive Attack. There is the chance that this is the long-rumored "House Of Yes" project, but am still trying to find out more about it. Song title is currently unknown.

Taylor/Homström/Massive Attack

well i've been downtown
like i never got started
cuz you want your world
just a certain way

and i can tell you this
i've been outsmarted
and that hurts me more
than it hurts me how-
much i miss her

i find that i'm spent
i never regret it
and i said things that
i know right now i never meant

well i've been downtown

cuz you want your world just a certain way

repite x

It came out on the Dandysrule2 list that one of the people involved in this is Brian Coates. I then got the following new info:

Another song title: Used To Be Friends

People:
Brian Coates: doing some mixing, engineer work and production.
Bjorn Thorsrud: doing a lot of mixing and engineer. He has a very long musical career, as he has helped on albums by Smashing Pumpkins, Shaina Twain, Whitesnake, Nelson and Milli Vanilli, among others.
