Dandy Warhols News and Rumors

April 11, 2004 - Scientist Video Shows Up
See, constant reader? At times I'm right. I mentioned back in January that "they" filmed a video for I Am A Scientist, and this past week, it showed up on Australia TV.

Will it be a single? Well, everything I've heard points to no, even though there is a promo of the single that exists. But don't count on it. On the flip side, Australian radio has been playing the song.

I had a copy of the video, but can't find it now. If I get another copy, or find it online, I'll either post the address or the video.

By the way, part of the reason for lacking of updates recently is I'm working on trying to set up a new format for the news and reviews pages.

April 6, 2004 - Rumors;Recording;Dig!;Wonderfalls;Touring
Every time I've come to the site to update it lately, I keep getting distracted. Therefore, the news is out of date. Let's play catch-up.

First lets get the big rumor out of the way... on April 1st, it was said on Dandysrule2 that on the official boards someone said that Zia was pregnant and the band would be taking 2 years off. I haven't found answers to all the questions, but considering it mostly bullshit, or an Aprils Fool joke, but I didn't go check out when the original post was.

Which leads to the next info. According to the official site, recording has begun on the new album, which doesn't play into the idea of them taking a break. The official site said " Yesterday, we started recording some basic tracks for our next record. Just some drum stuff, some piano stuff." So, they started recording on the first of April. My gut feeling is that this isn't anything worth talking about and is being overly exaggerated. Laying down some drum doesn't mean anything towards a new album. And don't forget that in early March, Gothman said at that point recording had started. So, did it start in early March or April 1st? The answer is insignificant, really. But I wouldn't expect a new album until late 2005 at the earliest. All of this, besides what DW.com is posting, is based on my opinion and not by asking anyone, either in the band or close to them, for more details.

Spreading out from the first bit of info, the Zia rumor apparently started when someone "overheard" Courtney mention it at the NYC showing of Dig! on March 26th. At the same showing, Ondi (film producer, director, etc... it was her project) and Courtney did a Q&A afterwords. Reports from people there were strongly negative towards the Q&A session (which I'll add a disclaimer about in a bit), saying that it was a hatchet job by Ondi and Courtney against Anton, with no one to defend him. Also, people were put off by Courtneys apparently laziness, as he did the Q&A laying on his back on stage, with the mic resting on his chest. Nothing significant came out of the Q&A though. As for the disclaimer, most of the reports that I got about his attitude came from those who have a stronger love affair with Anton and BJM than DW anymore... I don't mean that as a negative, just saying their glasses were a bit colored to begin with.

As for the film, nothing but rave reviews continue to come in about it, with the average person saying it really makes Anton look bad and the move zealot crowd falling in line behind those that thing Courtneys schtick and "selling out" have gone too far. At least that is the impression I got.

Dig! is set for a theatrical release in October in the U.S., while the DVD release will be "late 2004-early 2005". Theatrically, it will soon be making appearances at international film festivals. I don't have any more info than that at this time.

During last Thursdays broadcast of the show "Wonderfalls," which I think was a great show, on fox, We Used To Be Friends was playing in the background of about 1/3 of the hour long episode (and this is probably a very liberal estimate). The show was promptly cancelled the next day. Warhols curse?

The official site mentions the band will not be touring much this year except for very, very rare appearances in festivals this summer, which if you have been reading along here, you have known for a while. They do go on to say that they won't be playing fests they have done before, or in locales they have played before. This does point to them playing the long-rumored Splendour In The Grass festival, but count that as a rumor. Even with this though, the band is, at this time, slated to play Glastonbury and T In The Park this summer. This could change, but that's where it stands right now. One I wouldn't be surprised to see them at is the Isle Of Wight festival in June.

I had a list of things to talk about but I lost it, so I feel like I'm forgetting somet things.

March 26, 2004 - Download Dream Ticket;Dig! broadcasts - including this weekend
Being the ever-loving guy I am, I recorded the Dream Ticket show and have put it on the website. I couldn't remember if I put it up here before or not, since it was broadcast originally back in May 2003... it is the Bristol Academy show. Anyway, if you don't have it, you can download the whopper at http://www.slabtown.net/audio/dandywarhols_bristol.mp3. As I said, it's a big one though (almost 110mb in size), so hope you have free time.

On a non-copyright breaking note, we have Dig!, the documentary of BJM and DW...
This weekend, it will be being shown in New York City. They are Friday at 8:30pm @ Walter Reade Theater and Saturday at 12:30pm @ the MOMA Grammercy Theater.
Don't be surprised if they sell out quick (if they aren't already), as all past showings have sold out fast.

Here are some other upcoming showings of Dig!:
San Francisco Film Festival - April 17, 19th
Boston Independent Film Festival - April 30th, May 1st
Coachella Film Festival - May 1, 2 (with Q&A, presumably with Ondi)
Newport (Rhode Island) Film Festival - dates haven't been set, but FF runs June 8-13

Look for commercial release on DVD to be this fall and showings on Sundance Channel "soon". Dates not announced.

March 23, 2004 - Upcoming "Live" Broadcast;UTBF theme song down under.
Will someone please send a message to the guy who runs this place to remind him to archive this crap?! This page is way too long. I do plan on doing it soon (maybe tonight if I get bored playing a game I'm playing)... but 7 months is rediculous.

A couple small items. First, the band appeared in a photo shoot for the Australian magazine, CREAM. It is the "latest issue," with some boy model on the front cover. If anyone can throw me a scan of the pics, I wouldn't hate you for it. Thanks to Justine for letting me know.

Staying down in Oz, there is a TV show called My Restaurant Rules, which is a reality show of sorts, where viewers apparently vote for their favorite restaurant/couple of an episode... I'm too bored to read more to see what it's totally about. Anyway, the show uses "We Used To Be Friends" as the theme song. As described by Adam to me, "at the beginning of each show, the song is played, complete with lyrics as an introduction."

Last but not least, there will be a broadcast of a Dandy Warhols performance on BBC radio station BBC6. It will be on the Dream Ticket show and airs March 25th at 10pm-12am London time. This translates out to 2pm West Coast US time and 5pm East Coast US time. If you are in other time zones, you will have to do the math yourself :). Anyway, the Warhols are 'headlining' the show, which means that they will probably play a 1 hour set from the band. No word on which show they might or might not do. Thanks to Damian on DR2 for mentioning this. Of course, since you all should be members anyway, you probably already know. You can listen live on the net, so go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/music/dream_ticket.shtml to connect or for more info.

March 16, 2004 - Slow Times
It has been a slow time lately, but there are a couple things I wanted to mention that I hadn't before... I've falling a bit behind with some of the non-important things.

On the TV show 24, the song Nietzche was used in one episode. In the episode in question, the "bad guys" at the time meet up in a club, in a back room. Playing in the club is the song. On a humorous note, I am a closed-caption junkie, and when they showed the scene, they actually described it as "reggae song playing"... It was short, but still cool to hear, and it fit the scene great.

There have been various comments and rumors about what the band is doing right now, musically. As I said on the first of March, Gothman said that work on their next album has already started and a title has been chosen. Also recently, Courtney did mention to someone in an email that there would be no touring for a while, not even in Portland, due to them throwing all their work into the new album and wanted "no interruptions"... As I said before, don't read too much into this. I don't doubt Courtney has started on the new album, but it isn't as far along as this would seem to imply. I hope to talk to Mr TT about this soon, but he isn't too happy with me right now, so I will try some other time.

I upgraded my account with my host and have twice as much room now as before, so if there is anything you want to be posted (within reason), let me know.

Shoot, there were at least 2 more things but can't remember what now.

March 6, 2004 - Quicky about touring
Consider this a longshot and just rumor, but when Zia was down in Australia in January, she mentioned they hope to come back to the country for the Splendour In The Grass festival, which is July-ish.

Might be true, or might be hopeful thinking by Zia. Not sure.

March 3, 2004 - "Confessions" Screenshots
OK, got three screenshots from the movie "Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen." These shots show Courtney walking past some girls. Sorry for the ads in the pictures, but I hope to get better ones soon.

March 1, 2004 - The Past Month In Review
OK, some stuff happened in the past month, so lets sort it all out if we can.

Courtney (and the rest of the band I believe) make an appearance in the movie "Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen"... which looks really cheesy, but I do like the name a lot. I hope to get screen captures later today. We'll see.

On Jan 28th, the Warhols were featured on a BBC show called Dream Ticket, which plays live pieces from bands... was about 20 minutes long. I have no idea what show was played and am looking for a copy of it if anyone has it.

As announced before, DIG! was picked up by Palm Pictures and will be released in North America and on DVD later this year. Check out the official site of the movie (http://www.digthemovie.com) for more info, or just keep watching here, as I'll try to keep you updated on it. I do plan on writing an informational piece/faq about it sometime down the line, but don't know when I'll get to it. It is pretty low on my priorities.

Sticking with the Dig! news, it will be playing in New York City as part of the New Directors/New Films series at MOMA Grammercy. The dates are March 26th @ 8pm and March 28th @ 12:30pm. Expect it to sell out, as it has been all over the place.

No new word worth metnioning about the release of the Black Album, Come On Feel The Dandy Warhols, or the 10 Year Anniversary DVD. I saw Courtney last night, but didn't feel like talking to him, so didn't get any new info.

Gothman said on the new official boards (which I hear are open now, thoguh I haven't gone to them) that the next album has been started and has a title. Don't read anything into this, as his idea of it being started is probably not the same as a regular persons. The Warhols are notorious for slacking off, with albums usually coming out every 3 years. will keep an eye on this though

I start my new job in 2 or 3 weeks (my current job is trying to make it as far down the line as possible.... *sigh*). Why should you care? I plan on upgrading my hosting service here when I have the time, which will mean more audio files will be around for longer, as I will have twice the room I have now. Watch for more info on this down the line. I also plan on being a pain in the butt and add a donation link to the menu <---- over there later this week. Some people in the past have wanted to donate money to help me with the site, but to be honest, I would rather have new material and warhols items. But I won't turn down the money. I do guarantee it will go towards the website though.

Devon went to Seattle. Ok, that isn't anything important, but it did happen in the past month.

As you could guess from that last part, I am out of things to say. I know I am forgetting a few things (and not mentioning some things that I can't talk about yet), but thats enough for now.
