Dandy Warhols News and Rumors Archive - January 2003

January 31, 2002 - Dandy Warhols the next Nirvana
I love misleading headlines.

In this case, the declaration of "The Next Nirvana" is based on the fact that, like Nirvana's "You Know You're Right" in late 2002, "The Last High" has shown up on radio stations before it has come out officially. In this case, KSDTRADIO.ORG, a student-run radio station for University of California, Sand Diego. But, they only played it once, on Jan 27th at 12:14am... so I'm sure no one heard it.

Thanks to Brandon for this info.

January 24, 2002 - Odditorium
Well, I'm back after three days of computer exile. And, since I didn't come to a decision as to what decision I should make, that alone made the decision for me, and I've taken both versions of The Last High off of my site. I am sure that enough other people already have it, so that it should be able to be found. A few hundred alone got it from my site.

Well, I come back to find out a new section/gallery is up at the official site. This shows the current construction of the bands new building. Enjoy the picutres.

Look in the site update section later today for links to some new concerts pictures that were sent to me (by new, they are not recent, just not released before on the site)... thanks to Jan for those! Also, I've been putting off adding a couple setlists for a few days now, so maybe I'll get around to that.

January 21, 2002 - crap
Don't read anything into this.. I repeat, don't read anything into this...

I have to really think about something for a few days, so I am turning off my computer for at least 3 days. No updates, no following news, no checking of email, nothing. Don't ask why... it really isn't anything bad. Honestly. I just have to think about a few things.

But, two things to say: I guarantee you that the site is not going anyplace. This has nothing to do with the availability of the site... and The Last High, which was only a wma file before is also a mp3 file now. use the exact same name and location for it, just use mp3 instead of wma.

January 19, 2002 - "Hot Property"
Thanks to Misslucifer (and her dad) on the official messageboards for mentioning this on there:

Apparently the latest issue of the "Financial Times" Companies And Finances section has an article titled "EMI reaches 'number one' in the takeover charts." The second paragrah reads:
"The company - whose roster ranges from Robbie Williams to the Dandy Warhols - has also found itself at number one slot in the media takeover charts, amid continued speculation that rival music companies and private equity groups want EMI to 'Come Away With Them'."

Included with the article is a picture, approximately 1/3 of the page, from what I believe is the AP photo shoot from a few years ago, with the band all on cell phones (http://www.slabtown.net/photos/ap.jpg) and the caption of "Hot Property: bands such as the Dandy Warhols have made EMI an attractive bid target."

But we probably already knew that, didn't we? I mean, don't we all read the financial times section of local papers?

January 16, 2002 - Yes, it does exist
Go to the Album 4 info page for an update on the release of The Last High.

January 16, 2002 - song thread
Rather then update here everytime I get something about the Spin track release, I've made a thread on the messageboard. The address for it is:

January 15, 2002 - new song released? More info
So, I Went to the source and called up Courtney... Anyway, when I first told him about The Last High being on the Spin compilation, he was not happy. He immediately called up Capitol looking for answers. Anyway, I called him back later (I was drunk, again/still, which is why I had the audacity to call him twice in one day) and he said that it was all cleared up and the track wasn't released...

BUT

The original source, which I said I trust, gave a pretty detailed answer as to the CD itself... describing its packaging and other tracks on the CD. Anyway, the short of it is that, based on his description, I do believe it exists. I'm still trying to find a copy of it, but right now, my money is on it existing.

Sorry for the lack of better updates on this subject. It's all happening fast.

January 15, 2002 - new song released?
OK, this is the first major new news about the album in a while. According to RJ on the dandysrule2 mailing list, the latest issue (maybe next issue?) of Spin magazine will include a track called "The Last High"... now for some lineage time: appareantly, this is the new name for "I Am Sound" (Suffered And Sound)... also known as the Ashes To Ashes Clone.

I'm still trying to find more info, but RJ has been cool in the past, so I trust him.

More when I hear it

January 12, 2002 - appearance of Boho
Bohemian Like You has been making a lot of appearances lately in the U.S. It has been the background music for commercials for Fox Televisions coverage of the playoffs for (American) football. Also, it is apparently in the video game "Test Drive - Le Mans". This makes the second racing game that has had DW songs in it (The first being Last Junkie appearing in Gran Turismo).

Also, when people find lyrics missing from my site, please write in. I have most of the lyrics (my guesses of them, at least), so the ones that aren't posted are just because I'm lazy. Remind me of them.
