"You never know what kind of live performance they're going to turn in. They go from being absolutely fantastic to the absolutely abysmal, depending on how they perceive the vibe. But when you sign an act like this, you don't anticipate consistency", claims Perry Watts-Russell, the man who signed the Dandy Warhols.
Well, the vibe must have been acceptable, because the Warhols charmed us all with an hour's dose of their warm, uplifting psychedelic tones. They pulled their trump card early, and had the entire tent jumping along to "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth".
It would have taken more than a bunch of drunken hecklers (who managed to hit singer Courtney Taylor twice in the head with a Frisbee and cruelly bombarded little Zia with bits of food) to dampen the atmosphere. "Someone must have had a bad day", retorted the singer in his soft Portland drawl.
At the end of a rousing set (highlight: "Every Day is a Holiday"), we had already had a great psychedelic day.
