Online Review
at Channel V Studio
by Lisa -

On Friday afternoon I headed out to Fox Studios where Channel V had the Dandys performing for TV. I wasn't expecting a real lot but figured since we had travelled so far to see them we should make the most of it. I was blown away when they played for 90 minutes on the little stage that was set up outside. Considering they were only meant to be playing for an hour they didn't do too badly. There was a fairly large crowd and a large screen above where the band was playing so you could keep half an eye on what was being filmed. What came up on screen looked good. The band seemed very focused and didn't even appear stoned! The overhead shots revealed interesting little things like all the little notes attached to Zia's keyboards. Now I only wish that I actually subscribed to Channel V and had been able to record it!

Before the band started playing, Courtney and Brent had a short and not particularly good interview by a totally moronic VJ with questions and comments so feeble I cringed. It made me think about how much bands must hate being interviewed at times. They made the most of the questions though and I think they did quite well under the circumstances. The only thing mentioned of interest, at least to we antipodeans, was confirmation that the band will indeed be appearing at the Big Day Out in January (but then Justin had already told us that).

The audience, in the process of being hyped up by the dickhead VJ, had been waiting for quite some time when I was amused to spot Zia, Peter and their partners browsing in the shops just up from the stage whilst the crowd were oblivious right next door. If only they knew!

I stood next to the sound desk and, although I don't normally make set lists, I couldn't resist copying down the list they had stuck up there. That list is as follows:

Be In
Mohammed
I Am Over It
Hard On For Jesus
Horse Pills
We Used To Be Friends
Shakin'
Kim Deal
Lou Weed
Genius
Solid
Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth
Wonderful You
Ride
Loose
Godless
You Come In Burned
I Am Sound
Minnesoter
Good Morning
Plan A
Get Off
I Love You
Pete International Airport
Boys Better
Bohemian Like You
Grunge Betty
Rave Up

What actually ended up being played was:

Every Day Should Be A Holiday (a solo version by CTT)
Be In
Mohammed
I Am Over It
We Used To Be Friends
Shakin'
Solid
Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth
Bohemian Like You
Minnesoter
Lou Weed
Get Off
Last High
Loose (again fantastic!)

Like the concert the night before at the Metro it was excellent! And free as well what more could a Dandyaholic want?
