On The Couch: Courtney Taylor
By Jim Alexander
Which song describes you best?
"'Good Morning' off our new record. It's positive, a little sleepy, and little just-woke-up."
What is heaven?
"When you get a group of people where you never have to deal with idiots, or people who have a hard time listening, but love to talk all the time. That's my tourbus."
What is hell?
"When your label, agent and manager start to resemble Spinal Tap."
What is your earliest memory?
"Sitting on the floor, playing with marbles, and waiting for my older brother to come home from school. I think it might have been his first day, and that's why it's such a vivid memory."
What is your greatest fear?
"Being found out."
Who is your all-time hero?
"Spock. Everything made perfect sense to him, therefore nothing frustrated him. I envy his logic. Spock was the perfect human being, even though he's an alien."
What's The worst trouble you've been in?
"I had four days on this tour when we were sleeping on the bus at night and I had intestinal flu. I had shits really bad. I was waking up in the middle of God knows where, in a panic ttrying to get some shoes on so I could run off the bus into a field. I'll never be uphappy or uncomfortable again: I know what discomfort truly is."
Who was the first love of your life?
"The girl who helped our teacher at pre-school. I just wanted to know where she was all the time and followed her round, trying not to be obvious. But I was four!"
What's you'r greatest talent?
"I'm capably mediocre at everything. If I'm the best at something, then I lose my faith in humanity."
Upon whom would you mmost like to exact revenge?
"I've already gotten revenge on everyone I've needed to."
What's your most treasured possession?
"A box with all the four-track tapes of my music from the last ten years. Not even DATs' they're just old cassettes."
What have you most regretted doing while drunk?
"Drinking so much that I can never drink tequila again without getting instantly nauseous. It was the full-on toilet-hugging, face-down-on-the-cold-tile-of-the-bathroom-floor situation."
What can you cook?
"Pasta."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
"Do whatever it takes to make yourself a happy person. Zia (the band's keyboard player) old me that. If you're a happy person you won't fuck people over and you won't mind so much if other people fuck you over."
Can you read music?
"Yes"
If you were invisible for a day, what would you do?
"Steal a bunch of really expensive recording equipment. I'd sit in the shop, watch them punch in the alarm code and see wehre they put the keys. Then let myself in, let myself out!"
What are your final three wishes?
"Happiness. Prosperity. True love.
