Slabtown.net Site Updates Archive - February 2002

February 28, 2002
Added semi-tabs for Stars. I have had them for a while, but forgot to put them up, I guess.

I have finished the discography, except for the menus. Hopefully I will get that done, and uploaded by the end of this weekend.

This is an informational update, put here because I haven't made a better place for it. It is going to deal with some of the technical issues of this site.

A few days ago, slabtown.net was down for a few days, due to my provider having some apparent problems (I haven't heard from them about what might have happened). Any time that slabtown.net goes down, it is because of my provider. I won't ever just up and dissapear like that. If my site is going to go the way of the dodo, as decided by me, I will have an announcement about it up on this page, and I will mention it on the Dandysrule2 mailing list. Additionally, if the site is down, I probably have no information on why it went down, when it will be back, or anything of the sort. I am as much in the dark as you on it.

On a more serious (to me) matter, there is the question of why the page looks so bad on different browsers. For example, in Internet Explorer, the slabtown logo is close to flush against the metal bar in the upper left corner, but in Opera, there is like a 1 inch gap between them. Now, while Opera is my browser of choice, and the one I use most of the time, I design the pages for use in Internet Explorer, due to it being more widely used. Because of this, I don't really even bother to see how it will look in other browsers anymore, since I assume it won't be how I want it to be. Additionally, some websites out there have a "mac friendly" version of their pages. This won't happen here anytime soon, for a couple reasons: 1) I'm a diehard non-Apple user and 2) I don't have any macs to see what they would look like on it, so I don't even know what the difference might be between the two. But, to me, the only real drawback ends up being that the band all own Macs, so there is the possibility that they can't view my page. But, I'm ok with that. Hopefully if you are reading this on a mac, it isn't that horribly unreadable.

Well, I think that covers a couple of the more important technical questions of the site. I will have more later, since I have a few more topics I want to talk about, but by then, I hope to have a technical page for the site, and not just sticking it in site updates.

My provider decided to go offline for a few days without letting me know, so the site was down for a few days. In the meantime, I updated the following:

"fixed" track listings for the Black Album
Added a new compilation
Various small fixes on a few other albums

More updates later today

February 22, 2002
Added a new compilation, Indie, Vol 8.

February 21, 2002
Added a new compilation, The Holidays: An Exclusive Virgin Megastore Christmas CD Volume 4.
Howabout that? 10 days in a row of doing some sort of work on the site, and updating here.

February 20, 2002
Another non-update update:
Slow times in the Dandy world, so you would think I would have time to get a lot of web page work done, huh? But noooooo, I've gotten lazy on one part. The discography info is almost completed now, with the remaining albums being:
2 CD's I don't have
1 more Last Junkie CD
1 ...Come Down sampler tape
and the big one: Godless. Because of how many different Massive Attack and regular versions of this song were recorded, and on how many different places they exist, I have held off doing any of the non-comp CD's that have a Massive Attack Godless remix on them. This includes 6 albums.

So, there ya go. Depending on how you count them (grouping all the godless together, for reasons you will see at the end), I have 54 of 59 completed.

I figured out a solution to my problem with the site, but as I expected, it ended up being a problem with one line of code on each page. Not sure when I will get around to updating that one line. Also, it is not the best fix ever, as it leaves the page looking really bad on large displays. But, it will do for now. (The site updates page, news page, and frontpage all have been fixed)

More dandy updates later

February 18, 2002
Added a small amount of information about a compilation CD, Trigger Happy T.V. - Soundtrack 3

To update the progrss on the rest of the discography, I have between 12-18 CD's left to make pages for (the total number depends on some CD's I want to compare, so I can see if I will make a section for the album, or just include it with another similar one. SO, best case scenario is that 47 of 59 complete.

And finally, on a site non-update, yes I know that I haven't added the apeparances that the band made in the U.K. in early Feb to the gigography. Just haven't gotten to it.

February 17, 2002
Minor corrections to some pages, and added the line-up for the August 2, 1997 End Fest show.

Archived the January 2002 site updates.

February 16, 2002
Added a new compilation CD, The Tip Sheet sampler

February 15, 2002
Added new information for the May 15, 2001 show at the Powerhouse in Aukland, N.Z. Thanks to Adam for the info on it.

Added a new album, Triple J Hottest 100 - Vol. 8 to the album listings.

Added the June 19, 2000 show at The Astoria, in London.

February 14, 2002 (second update)
Son of a bitch. I just found out a problem with my code that is going to probably make me have to redo every page, to change like one or two lines for each page. That is a pisser. I don't know 1) when I will figure out exactly how to correct what is wrong on every page or 2) when I will start with the changes. I MIGHT just wait to update the pages that are up now until I am done with all of the new ones, then go back and fix the older ones (fixing the new ones as I go along). So, I am not sure what my update schedule will be like for a bit.

February 14, 2002
Happy Valentines Day

Added a new compilation CD to the discography, Ralph: Great Set Of Hits.

February 13, 2002
Added a links page to the menu. It is nothing that major right now, and only has one link on it. If you want to have your page linked, write to me. I don't guarantee that I will put it up anytime soon, since right now the page is only there as a placeholder. But, I am always interested in other Dandy Warhols sites.
Note: Don't write about other bands/subjects. At this time, unless it is directly connected to a member of the Dandy Warhols, I have no interest in linking to it at this time.

February 12, 2002 (second update)
After an E-mail asking for clarification, I updated the history information for Daisy On My Toe to reflect that the song was learned from Alicia Wood, not that the information was received by Alicia Wood.

February 12, 2002
Added pages for the first songs from the next album, Wonderful You and Kate. Nothing on them at this time, since nothing is really known about the songs yet. So, consider them placeholders more then anything else.

Discography update: 35/59 finished and ready for upload.

February 9, 2002
Personal whining time: My new job is killing me, with the lack of time for updates! DAMN LIFE!

Added new info for two older compilations (Now That'S What I call Music 50; EMI 8-Track Sweeden sampler).

On an non-uploaded note, I have finished writing all the information for all the vinyl releases by the band. I just haven't updated them yet. For the Dandy Warhols releases, I am going to wait and do one massive upload when I'm done with them all. As a reference, there are 59 Dandy Warhols albums to do info for, and I have 28 done. So, 28/59 finished.

February 5, 2002
Well, been chipping away at the discography more.
The only real update, beyond a few more compilations added, is that I added some (meaningless) info to the page about The Black Album

February 2, 2002
Added Blondie's Call Me to the song listings.
