Dandy Warhols News and Rumors Archive - January 2002

January 30, 2002 - Album 4 back to the roots?
In recent interviews with the European press, The Dandy Warhols let some tidbits about their album slip. Among notable comments:
Courtney was quoted as saying that the new album sounds similar to David Bowies Hunky Dory album, and has a very 70's feel.
The always talkative Zia (said in a loving way, of course) added that the sound reminded her a bit of their first album.

Thanks to Stephen on dandysrule2 for passing along the information.

January 23, 2002 - Re-release of Get Off single
According to NME.com, a U.K. website, the Dandys are going to re-release Get Off as a single. It will be out March 4th and will have two cover songs as B-Sides (Stars and Eight Days A Week). The recordings will reportedly be the Virgin Radio recordings from November.

January 20, 2002 - Charts
Ok, the see-saw of the charts happens again, as Boho and 13 Tales both have dropped off the top 100 U.K. charts. There have been a lot of new releases in the past week, so this isn't much of a surprise, and I would doubt a return to the top lists for the album. But, if they do re-appear, I'll let you know.

January 19, 2002 - Europe update
According to Chrissie on the Dandysrule2 mailing list, two of the German appearances will be:
Jan 24 - VIVA Interaktiv
Jan 26 - RTL Top Of The Pops
Hopefully more dates and locations will start to leak out

January 19, 2002 - Back to Europe and a pot o' gold from Ireland
Sometimes the official site can offer some good information, such as the following:
The Dandy Warhols are heading back to Europe again, for another round of media interviews and appearances. This time, it will be 2 weeks in Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. So, get those tape recorders ready, for a fresh new round of interviews and live songs.

And, the band will have to clear more space on their shelves, as Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia has reached gold status in Ireland. I haven't been able to find anything so far that says how many copies sold it takes for a gold in Ireland, but they got it, none the less.

January 17, 2002 - Chart Info... Finally
Those mean people! They switched the day that charts come out apparently. But, regardless, I now have the chart info for the week in the U.K.
Thirteen Tales went up 17 spots to +83, the highest it has been in over 3 months of keeping track at slabtown.net, when it was at #53 shortly after the re-release of Bohemian Like You. Keep in mind that no charts were found for early December, when it is likely that it placed between #53 and #83.
On a relatviely strange, related note, Bohemian Like You dropped out of the top 100 singles. This comes a week after it was at #63 on the charts. So, while the album relatively shot up the sales charts, the single plummeted, dropping at least 37 spots. I guess people decided to quit buying the single and just buy the whole album. Smart choice, actually.

January 13, 2002 - Chart Info...
...or lack thereof.
The place I usually get my chart information from is not feeling like updating this week, again. So the only info I have is that this week in the U.K., Bohemian Like You and Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia have both dropped out of their respective top 75 chart positions.
January 11, 2002 - Portugal festival/appearance cancelled?
According to the official website for the Termómetro Unplugged Festival, either the Dandy Warhols have cancelled their appearance at it, or the show overall has been cancelled. I've emailed them, to try to get more info, but haven't gotten any yet.
Thanks to Abby on Dandysrule2 for noticing this.

In other news, there are two "new" videos at Dandywarhols.com. One is a christmas greeting from "Dogboy" and the other is part 1 of the "Watercooler diaries" and features Courtney and Brent "meeting" each other.

January 6, 2002 - Chart Info
U.K. Chart information for the week ending Jan 6th, 2002:
Singles: Bohemian Like You was ranked #63
Albums: Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia was ranked #100
Since I didn't have it before, I can say that last week, the album was ranked #105. I'm still not sure of the week before that.
January 3, 2002 - Dandys playing festival in Portugal on January 26th
According to the official website for the "Termómetro Unplugged Festival," the Dandy Warhols will be headlining the festival, on January 26, 2002 in Oporto, Portugal at Teatro Sá da Bandeira. The festival is basically a contest for unsigned bands. The bands who play it each play 3 songs accoustically (2 original and 1 cover). Being that this is for bands that are basically unsigned, the Dandy Warhols playing seems weird.

Note: After looking around the website more, and reading the portugese section of it, they have confirmed that The Dandy Warhols will be playing an accoustic set to end the show.

Thanks to Pierre from dandysrule2 for the heads-up on this show, and to the official site of the festival ( http://www.termometro-online.com/ ) for additional information.
