August 31, 2002 - Official Messageboard opened
|
Nate on Dandysrule2 came through with a HUGE scoop. OK, actually, it isn't a scoop, but he was the first person to post on the mailing list about the official site now having a link to an official messageboard, and I'm nice enough to link it for you guys.

DROK climed two more spots this week in the U.K. sales charts. It now sits at #93.

August 23, 2002 - Pukkelpop wrapup;Reading preparation
|
Well, as expected, I 1) screwed up the time for the Pukkelpop Fest and 2) screwed up my recording of the show, so I have a 3 hour blank recording. Damn mute button. So, if anyone has the setlist, or better yet, a recording of the show, write in and let me know. Thanks.
Today the Dandys play the main stage at the Reading Festival, pretty much in the middle of the day. In fact, as I write this, their set is already over. More information later.

August 22, 2002 - Pukkelpop livecast tonight
|
I just found out that today/tonights Dandy Warhols show at the Pukkelpop Festival is being livecast on the internet, but in a roundabout way. Kinda.
The show is being livecast through the website, but the only way I have found to actually get it to work is to go through the link to the Dutch (Nederlands) area on the first page. Then, click on Live. An even easier method? Go to the page directly with this address:
http://www.pukkelpop.be/live.html.
The Dandy Warhols are scheduled to go on at midnight local time (my guesstimate puts that at around 8pm EST in the states. But, don't rely on my math for that, just go to the site and find out for sure when it is.
Also, if I wake up, I plan on at the very least taping the audio for the performance. I plan on trying to get the video too, but that takes more coordination then I might want to do. And knowing me, I probably will sleep through it all anyway.

August 21, 2002 - Possible DROK Charts Reason
|
Some talk on the dandysrule2 mailing list yesterday was based around the chart position of the Dandys debut album, Dandys Rule, OK, and Pete had an observation: Apparently the album has been priced down to £2.99 (about $4.50), and is prominently displayed in an advertisement. He goes on to further mention that Come Down and 13 Tales are now priced at £6.99 each. With prices like those, its appearance isn't as much of a surprise.

August 20, 2002 - DROK Charts In the U.K.
|
Every week, I check out the U.K. top 100 album and single charts to see if Thirteen Tales has made the list again, as it occasionally does from time to time, but this week had a different surprise in store. For the first time in years, possibly ever, Dandys Rule, O.K. was in the charts, at #95. I am not sure if its the first time ever in the charts, but the charts list it as a new release, which is definitely not the case, as far as I have heard.

August 20, 2002 - the semi-saga continues
|
Due to popular demand, I put the pictures of Michelle Norkett back up, but changed the caption:
Michelle Norkett.
|
August 20, 2002 - Michele Holmstrom
|
Wow.
I didn't understand the info correctly on the mailing list. Hehe. Anyway, the pics I had up before of Michelle Norkett were not the girl that Peter married, as I had originally assumed. So, I took them down. I'll upload them again later down the line, since they still have some importance in the history of the band, but not yet.
Just chalk it up to Justin fucking up again.

August 19, 2002 - Michelle Holmstrom
|
Wow.
If I understood the info on dandysrule2 correctly, and I think I did, word of who Peter married came out, and it's a girl from Courtneys past. Apparently it is Michele Norkett, the supermodel former girlfriend of Courtney Taylor, and the basis for Country Leaver, among other songs (I believe that the unreleased House Of Yes is about her as well, but I'm not totally sure.). If you read the CD liner notes for 13 Tales, the last line on the page says "4 & 13 for M.N.", which are the tracks "Country Leaver" and "The Gospel."
Other information about Michele:
She has/had been a supermodel for a few years, with her biggest claim to fame being her previously holding the world record for the longest legs in the world, though I don't remember how long her legs were. I do know that she is 6ft 3 inches tall though. (the record is now held by Ana Hickmann, with 46 inches of the 72 inches of her body being her legs.)
I had more to add, but forgot what now. I did upload 2 pictures of Michele though.

August 14, 2002 - Ride
|
While I haven't heard it yet, reports on the Dandysrule2 mailing list say that Ride is being used as the background music for at least one commercial in the U.S. for the Sprint PCS cellphone network. I haven't heard it myself yet, and I haven't heard if it is a one-time thing or not, but will let you know when/if I find out.
On a strange, but unimportant note, the official site has taken down the information about Courtney going to L.A. this past week and the plans for the band to join him down there later this week. Don't know if the info has changed or if its gone due to a technical problem.

August 12, 2002 - "updated" timeframe for release of album 4
|
I just couldn't stay away any longer. But, I'm feeling better. A couple things came out in the past few days, all of them mostly related to updates at Official Site:
Courtney is currently in L.A. doing some mixing on the new album. Not sure where or with who. This might be part of the work with Flood, but I don't know where Flood is based out of, or if he would travel to help with the album. Hell, he might have dropped out of the project all-together, since there hasn't been any word, official or unofficial, of his involvement since an interview in Europe months ago. Regardless, the rest of the band will be jetting down to L.A. later this month to get in some more work for the album as well. All of this will take place before they head off to Europe for 4 more shows. Based on word from the past, following those show, in early September the band will begin doing heavy mixing and editing of the album.
In a follow-up to the news of Peter's wedding to Michele, The site confirmed that the wedding was on August 3rd and took place at Peter's parents house. "Reverend Courtney" had the honor of marrying them, as he did for Zia's "second marriage" in Europe earlier this year.

August 6, 2002 - Upcoming lack of slabtown updates
|
This isn't really an update on the band, but didn't know where else to put it. Hell, I probably could have not posted it at all and no one would have noticed.
Anyway, there will be less updates to slabtown.net for a while. I'm feeling really depressed about real life, non-dandy stuff and frankly don't feel like updating. So, to avoid burnout by forcing myself to work on the site, I'm just going to get my bearings again. Hopefully this doesn't turn out like last time (last time I took the site down and turned my back on the band and community for 3 or 4 years).
Be back later.

August 3, 2002 - Peter Gets Married, version 2
|
Got word on the Dandysrule2 mailing list that, yes the wedding is happening, and it is actually today (August 3).
You know, I actually feel like maybe I'm crossing some line in their privacy when I say stuff like when the wedding is. I mean, Zia's wedding was announced on dandywarhols.com, and it was publicized, whereas Peters has not been talked about at all. Is this be design? If so, I probably do cross a line.
Oh well, I'm over it.

August 1, 2002 - Peter Gets Married
|
Either recently, or in the coming-up days, Peter should be marrying his longtime girlfriend Michele. On July 31, they had a party for the wedding, but I haven't actually gotten word on when the wedding was. Well, I got 3 different dates, but nothing firm as to which one is right, if any.
Regardless, congrats Peter. By my count, that makes 3 of the Dandys married (and 4, if you count Eric, their old drummer). The riddle of the ages: Will Courtney settle down? *Cue laughter now*
