Simultaneously hyped (by anxious marketing folks at the label) and touted (by NW hipsters in the know) as "the last classic rock album," the Dandies' third long-player meets the challenge head-on with swagger and style. The opening song, "Godless," is a cross between "My Sweet Lord" and "So You Want To Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star." It's followed by an Eastern-tinged slab of folk-psychedelia ("Mohammed"), a Spiritualized/Spacemen 3 drone-fest ("Nietzsche"), a good-time, countryish tune that's equal parts Ronnie Lane and Workingman's Dead ("Country Leaver") -- and nine other equally intriguing cuts. All are rousingly diverse, but, as they're linked by sound effects-laden segues, they form a coherent whole -- just like all those great classic rock albums from the past.
