The Dandy Warhols Welcome to the Monkeyhouse
Just when you have them figured out, they pull
something out of the bag like Welcome to the
Monkeyhouse. The overall retro 80’s synth-pop sound to
the album’s 13 tracks is hardly a bold new move
(Beck), but unlike acts who have tried before them,
The Dandy Warhols have reinvented people’s
preconceptions of the band. The lead single “We Used
to Be Friends” is as close to their former selves,
while ex-Lemonheads front man Evan Dando lends his
talents to sublime David Bowie influenced pop
masterpiece “You Were the Last High”. Guitarist Nile
Rogers adds to “I Am the Scientist”, while rock is
found in abundance in “Hit Rock Bottom” and
“Heavenly”. It’s a grower, but all classics are.
