Welcome To The Monkey House

Urban bohemians get free with Duran Duran and Chic. Oh gee, How fabulous. Like the original Warhol, the profoundly shallow Dandy Warhols have gathered their wonderful new friends around them for their fourth album. Fellow flake-cum-hedonist Evan Dando shows up to freebase some class A insouciance in the Prefab Sprout-do- “Ashes to Ashes” pop of “You Were the Last High”. Ex-Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon, the man who invented indulgence in the 1980’s, coos backing on the falsetto sigh of “Plan A”. Chic’s Nile Rogers, meanwhile, joins the party on “I Am the Scientist”, which nearly encapsulates the Dandy Warhols’ new direction: 80’s-style, drop dead electro pop, influenced by Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Flock of Seagulls, et, al. Crazy idea, but the supremely self-obsessed Dandies make it work.
