The Dandy Warhols first caught my (and many others') attention back in 1997 with their groovy single "Not if you were the Last Junkie on Earth". The video gained heavy rotation on MTV's 120 Minutes and was certainly a nice change of pace for modern rock radio.

Their latest release, "13 Tales from Urban Bohemia", is a grand work of art. While it probably won't reach the radio audience that their debut cd "The Dandy Warhols Come Down" attained, there's no doubt the band will gain new fans.

About 37 seconds (trust me, I counted!) into the first track, "Godless", an accoustic guitar riff comes in that will conjure up memories of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord". The remainder of the five and a half minute song lives up to the standard set by Harrison's 70s rock anthem.

The Dandy's also make some successful transitions throughout the album. "Horse Pills" shows that the band is capable of producing a raw, thrashing and (most importantly) believable heavy sound. "Country Leaver" has an interesting, Wilco-like, southern twang. "Sleep Forever" could have been a lost Beatle track, while "Mohammed" has a middle eastern sound that would make Led Zeppelin (or more recently, The Tea Party) proud.

For those of who looking for an eclectic mix, "13 Tales from Urban Bohemia" is definitely worth your dollar (or download).
