Just when you though that The Dandy Warhols were going to be surviving forever on the proceeds from licensing two tracks for use in advertising, they finally end a three year wait with a new album. Now, here’s a thought experiment: you’re in a band with a good-to-average career behind you and a couple of major international hits, what do you when it’s time to pay the bills? Do you: a) push into the uncharted waters of experimentalism, thereby ensuring that you will live forever as icons of independence; b) radically change your musical direction, because you don’t really like money and you’d rather follow your muse wherever it takes you; or c) examine what made your two hits so successful and take the safe path of reducing them to a formula to be repeated ad infinitum until another advertising licensing deal comes up? Top marks to all those that correctly chose option C.
