The third studio album from Portland, Ore's. smart psychedelic popsters is the sort of moody, flowing, interconnected tapestry that rockers just don't record anymore - save for Mercury Rev and the Flaming Lips. The Dandys aren't quite so strange - there's much more guitar-rock rootsiness in their brand of mind warp - but they have similar ambitions in both grandiose, hypnotizing drones such as "Godless" and "Nietzsche," and more lilting semi-acoustic numbers such as "Sleep." It's an intoxicating mix, and it deserves to win these boys their 15 minutes of fame.
