The Big Takeover #38
Dandys Rule O.K.

Choosing a name as detrimentally cutesy as The Dandy Warhols, one had better be either damnably brilliant, or admirably tongue in cheek. The Dandies are neither, but prove a whole lot better than I imagined possible. I'd probably be stating the obvious in commenting on the high level of production which went into this studio effort, but it actually works to their advantage. The harmonies between Courtney Taylor and Zia McAbe are tight, and the songs are mostly well crafted pop raveups. The downside is that they're placed themselves within a rock aubstrata which requires a near invincible songwriting ability (and image) to insure survival. Which ultimately means they'd have to graduate from indie status to a Nirvana-esqe level of notoriety. This I don't see happening in the near future.
