Hells Bells

There seems to be a resurgence of appreciation of AC/DC songs by people other than mullet sporting, Camero driving goons. In 1999, Red House Painter's mainman Mark Kozelek released his first solo album which included no less than three AC/DC covers. With the music lightened up a bit, there is surprising emotive substance in the lyrics. The Dandy Warhols version of "Hells Bells" is no exception. Played on an acoustic guitar instead of an overdriven Gibson along with synth and Tijuana Brass style horns, the Dandys version exudes eerie sadness where vein bulging adrenaline used to be. The lethargically whispered vocals are the perfect counter point for the music.
